What Salary Update Does

Salary Update allows payroll or HR administrators to update employee salary values. Salary effective dates and salary history help BoviHR calculate payroll correctly when salary changes happen during a pay period.

This topic includes:

  • Basic salary
  • Salary type
  • Salary effective date
  • Salary history
  • Bulk salary updates
  • Mid-period salary changes
  • YTD salary setup

When To Use Salary Update

Use Salary Update when:

  • An employee receives a raise.
  • A group of employees receives a percentage increase.
  • A salary was entered incorrectly.
  • An employee joins mid-year and needs YTD values entered.
  • Payroll should use different salary rates before and after an effective date.

Practical Example: Mid-Period Raise

An employee earns $10.00 per hour from January 1 to January 10. On January 11, the employee receives a raise to $12.00 per hour.

If the payroll period is January 1 to January 15, BoviHR needs the salary history and effective date so payroll can calculate the correct rate for each part of the period.

Without the effective date, payroll may use the wrong rate for the entire period.

Practical Example: Bulk Salary Increase

A company gives all regular employees a 5% salary increase.

The payroll administrator can use Salary Update to apply the increase to selected employees. After the update, review salary history to confirm the new values and effective dates.

Practical Example: YTD Setup For Mid-Year Hire

An employee joins BoviHR in July, but payroll needs to show year-to-date values from January to June.

The administrator should enter the employee's YTD salary and YTD effective date so payslips and reports show correct year-to-date totals.

Basic Steps

  1. Open the employee profile or Payroll Settings salary update area.
  2. Confirm the current salary and salary type.
  3. Enter the new salary value.
  4. Set the correct salary effective date.
  5. Save the change.
  6. Review salary history.
  7. Run Draft Review before final payroll.

Common Mistakes

  • Updating salary without setting the correct effective date.
  • Entering the payroll date instead of the actual date the new salary begins.
  • Forgetting YTD values for employees migrated mid-year.
  • Running payroll before reviewing salary history.
  • Assuming a salary change automatically recalculates old paid payslips.
